Congrats to Big Momma for correctly guessing today's word! Have you ever heard of Zwieback?
It's a German bread that's very crisp and great for teething children. How do I know this? Especially since I'm not German, nor do I have any teething children.
I know about Zwieback from one of my all time favorite books, Baby Island by Carol Ryrie Brink. Ever read this 1937 classic?
It's very probable that you didn't unless you had a mother who loved it and was able to find a copy. It's been out of print forever, but my mom managed to snag one at a library sale when I was about six years old. I think I read Baby Island about 127 times as a child. It's about two sisters on a ship bound for Australia to stay with their father. They love babies and watch the ones on the ship while their parents have fun. The ship goes into distress and the sisters are put on board a lifeboat with 4 babies, then land on an island. Aren't you intrigued already? It's a wonderful book and Zwieback has a very prominent role. Please check it out if you are lucky enough to find a copy!
The A to Z challenge is officially over! It was a great experience, and I really enjoyed the challenge. But my next blog post probably won't be till Christmas. ;)

I know what zwieback is, my mother gave it to me, my brother and sister. I grew up in Georgia in the states, but I've lived my adult life in Canada.
